THanks for the thorough reply.
I had to restore the site because someone else bought my domain! So I had to move the wordpress site to a different folder and use a new domain. I still can't access the dashboard on that old site. I might tinker with the .htaccess page to make sure it just has that standard rewrite rules. Thanks. Also I did have a security plugin installed so that may be causing problems, too.
